Public Talk: Meditation on Loving-Kindness

Khenchen will teach on the Four Immeasurables and Tonglen meditation, powerful skillful means for transforming our minds.  First we reflect on Love, Compassion, Joy and Equanimity without measure,  the heart of the Awakened Mind.  When we've trained our minds to become softer, gentler and more loving, our hearts open to the blessing of the masters and we discover their love and compassion.  This helps us to engender a love we can radiate to all beings without fear and without limit.  When we have generated this compassion and loving-kindness we can enter into the method of the practice of Tonglen.  Through Tonglen we can transform our own suffering through embracing the suffering of others.  These are teachings that can help us to learn to be less selfish and more altruistic, even helping us cope when negative emotions arise in our minds such as anger, hatred and jealousy.

This talk is suitable for those new to Buddhism, but Khenchen has been known to teach on many levels according to the needs of the students.

Saturday, December 15; Sunday, December 16

Second Weekend: Nangjang, Buddhahood Without Meditation

Click here to find out how to register

Nangjang was revealed by Dudjom Lingpa, a great visionary, terton and meditation master who lived and taught in the Golok region of Eastern Tibet in the 19th century. In this text he presents the view of Dzog Chen through the practice of Trek Chod ("cutting through solidity"). Among Tibetans the Nangjang is a standard text for training in this practice. Dudjom Lingpa's rebirth, the late HH Dudjom Rinpoche said of it, "The Nang-jang was prepared as an inexhaustible treasure trove of the gift of the Buddha's teachings, the relics of the dharmakaya." An excellent translation by Richard Barron, including the original Tibetan text, is available from Tibetan Treasures.

The teachings will be presented in a series of three or four weekends. The third weekend will be in 2008, time and date to be announced. If you would be interested in a make-up session or review session for the first weekend, please contact us at nyc@palyul.org
